Dr. Louis-Philippe Bougie-Bastien earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Université de Montréal in 2010. During his training, he completed an external clinical rotation at Fier Eye Care & Surgery Center in Stuart, Florida, where he worked in a multidisciplinary environment alongside optometrists and ophthalmologists.

Early in his career, he practised in a variety of clinical settings in the Montreal area, primarily in private practice, but also at Douglas Hospital, where he performed eye examinations for long-term patients, and as a clinician at the Université de Montréal School of Optometry. He later continued his practice in Dorval in a multidisciplinary setting alongside optometrists and ophthalmologists.

Over the years, Dr. Bougie-Bastien has developed a strong clinical interest in the anterior segment of the eye, the ocular surface, and tear film disorders. Since 2018, he has devoted an increasing portion of his practice to the assessment and management of dry eye and ocular surface disease. His approach focuses on identifying the various mechanisms contributing to each patient’s symptoms in order to develop an individualized treatment strategy that goes beyond simple symptom relief. He also sees patients referred by colleagues for the assessment and management of ocular surface conditions.

Dr. Bougie-Bastien places a strong emphasis on continuing education and the integration of new scientific knowledge into his clinical practice. He regularly participates in educational programs focused on ocular surface disease and dry eye. He also contributes to the continuing education of his peers. He has delivered several lectures for optometrists, including presentations on a more comprehensive approach to dry eye that extends beyond the use of artificial tears. He has also presented, in conjunction with the CPRO conference, an educational session on a new therapeutic approach in eye care, addressing its mechanism of action, clinical role, and integration into optometric practice.
