Dr. Johanna Choremis is an ophthalmologist with fellowship training in cornea, anterior segment, and refractive surgery. After completing medical school at McGill University on a Hugh Brock entrance scholarship, she pursued her residency training at the same institution. Her fellowship training was completed at Tufts University with an E. A. Baker scholarship. Upon her return to Montreal, she has worked at both McGill University’s Jewish General Hospital and the University of Montreal’s “Centre Universitaire d’Ophtalmologie” at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital, where she holds cross-appointments.

Over nearly 20 years of practice, Dr. Choremis has trained numerous residents and fellows in corneal transplantation, many of whom come from around the world. She is widely regarded as the highest-volume corneal transplant surgeon in the province and is recognized as a key opinion leader (KOL) in Canada for dry eye disease. Frequently sought after for her expertise, she is often invited to serve on advisory boards for dry eye products and deliver lectures to optometrists and ophthalmologists at both national and international conferences. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and continues to contribute to advancements in her field through research and education.

Currently, Dr. Choremis is chief of the Cornea Division at the University of Montreal and was recently promoted to associate professor at the same institution. She also serves as an assistant professor at McGill University. Her main areas of interest include corneal transplantation and dry eye disease, and she leads innovative initiatives to advance care for these conditions.
